Asisshowninthepictureabove,twomenreactincompletelyoppositewayswhenfacedwiththesameevent:Abottlefelloffontheground,andthewineinsidespiltout.Oneissmiling,feelinggladthathestillhastheresthalfofthewinewhiletheotherissighingingreatdesperationsayingthat“everythingscrewedup!”Thecartoontellsusthatbeingoptimisticandbeingpessimisticaretwodifferentattitudestowardslife.Facedwithachallenge,apessimisticpersonmayfeelgloomyanddistressed.Heconsidershimselfpowerless,andcomplainsaboutitalldaylong,refusingeventohaveatrybeforegivingitupintheend.Anoptimisticperson,however,mayadoptanentirelydifferentapproach.Hemaynotregardthechallengeassomethingthatbad;instead,hetakesitasanexcellentopportunitytodisplayhisabilitiesandtalent.Asanoldsayinggoes,“Thewayyouperceivetheworldwilldetermineyourwaytocopewithit.”Inmypointofview,thoughitisnaturalthatweencounterchallengesofonekindoranotherinourlife,weshouldbeoptimisticwheneverweareconfrontedwithchallenges.Ifwearepessimistic,wearedestinedtofail,endingupaccomplishingnothing.Butifweapproachthechallengesinanoptimisticway,wemaygofromvictorytovictory.
